Aubrey’s POV

I slowly wake up from my slumber and let out a little yawn. The sunlight has crept halfway across the room, telling me that it’s probably 9 or 10 in the morning. My beddings are bathed in this warmth. It smells like cotton, sunshine, and most importantly, Hayden.

I tilt my head to look for him. And find him putting on his shirt by the bedside.

The golden sunshine pours on his shoulder, depicting his muscular figure. Hearing me move around in the quilt, he turns around with a smile. And once again, I’m dazzled by how handsome he is.

“Hey, sleepy.” He bends down to kiss me gently on the forehead, “Don’t get up just yet. You must be exhausted.”

I blush slightly at his words.

We had a lot of crazy sex last night. Torn away our clothes as soon as we stepped into this room and got right into it on the carpet. We fucked on the desk, against the wall, in the shower and eventually ended up on this bed.

My last memory was him pounding me like a wild beast and I finally wasn’t able to handle his passion and passed out eventually.

We always have great sex. But last night was exceptionally crazy.

Because Hayden is going away today. To fight his last battle before he is crowned as the King of Alphas.

I raise an arm to caress his handsome face and murmur, “Do you really have to go? I’d really miss you…”

“Me too babe. I’d miss you like crazy.” He holds my hand and kisses my palm, “But it won’t be too long. I promise. Two weeks, I presume, a month tops, and I’ll be back. By then, I’ll announce you as my Luna and we’ll have a grand wedding together…”

I chuckle, amazed by the bright future he described for me.

“We will invite your father for the wedding.” Hayden continues, “When was the last time you see him?”

My dad is the Gamma of this pack. I haven’t seen him in years because he’s guarding the border. I admire him as a great warrior—thought not necessarily a great dad.

“Probably since I was an infant,” I sigh.

“It’s time to for some family reunions.” Hayden looks down at me adoringly, “But first, I need to win that battle.”

“I have faith in you.” I raise my head to kiss him, “I believe in you Hayden…my Alpha.”

After the last moment of farewell, Hayden left. His tropes are already waiting outside.

I get out of bed and throw a robe to cover my naked body and walk to the window. I’m just in time to see his tropes marching away.

My heart is filled with longingness, worry, anxiety…but also hopes for the future. Hayden is a brilliant Alpha. He’ll triumph without doubt.

And he’ll come back and marry me as he promised.

The bedroom door suddenly flies open and interrupts my line of thinking. I jerk around and find a group of maids pouring in.

“Excuse me?” I ask uncertainly, clutching my robe together.

I didn’t summon any maids.

“You can’t remain in the Alpha’s suite now that Alpha is gone.” One of the maids tells me with a condescending look on her face, “Ms. Jones asks you to report to her. IMMEDIATELY. She needs a word with you.”

Ms. Jones is the manager of this packhouse, a very powerful figure. She was never fond of me, apparently thinking Hayden is way out of my league.

“OK. But can I have some privacy to change first?” I ask politely.

Yet she only casts me a look of despise before turning away.

“Go change in your own room,” she grunts.

I’m familiar with this kind of hostility. I’ve received many like that since I was a child and people would call me “orphan” because my mom died young and my father was absent. When I started dating Hayden, things got worse. I’ve heard people calling me “slut” and “tramp” on my back.

I stand there stiffly watching maids pull my clothes off from the hanger and sipe my makeups into a bag. Their moves are so rude, almost like they are venting their grievance on my stuffs.

“Hey what are you still standing there!” someone hisses, “Ms. Jones demand to see you. NOW!”

She shoves me on my shoulder, pushing me out. I stagger on my way out. Before I can stand still, she has shut the door violently behind me with a loud thud.

I stare at the closed door in a daze.

I suddenly get the feeling that my peaceful time is coming to an end.
